paul:

Crisp Ellington cut of "Mood Indigo" (5)

One definition of spell is mental or psychological state.

CriSP ELLington cut

Cut means both excision or portion and recording or recording track.

"Mood Indigo" is one of Duke Ellington's most famous songs, and it basically means a blue mood.

And crisp is a word often used for a performance or for recording quality.

Thanks, Aristo. I saw most of it but, now that you've pointed out "mental or psychological state" as a definition, I understand the "Mood Indigo" . I would probably, eventually, have been asking for a parse myself otherwise.

Hi Paul - sw has called it pretty much.
A double def one straightforward a spell at the wheel etc.
One a bit cryptic a few overs in succession is called a bowlers spell.

Likes for aristo's hidden and BBM2's topical bowling with all the elements of paul's 12 combining well but perhaps a bit more time spent on the surface would have tipped the scales. skyewalker @ 19
