Just not seeing 1D Pot holder for fish (4)

I have C?A?

I can think of many fish/shellfish-related words that would fit (char, clam, crab, cran, craw, cray) but not a relationship to "Pot holder". Tea (char) comes in a pot but, of course, the pot is the char holder and not vice versa.

If ELEVEN is right (no idea why!), the PELE is hidden in toP ELEven

CRAN is an archaic measure of amount of herring. I don't see the rest, though.

Thanks Chrise. Pele makes sense.

I put CLAM for 1D as Chambers gives a definition "a gripping device". I've no idea if it's used to grip pots. We shall see.

Think I’ve worked it out. 11a is Pele who was a Hawaiian goddess so Hawaiian goddess is at eleven across.
