I'm finding this a much bigger challenge than is usual.

Have we encountered Smurf anywhere else? And I'm wondering if he is American?

New to me. Hard work but almost there. Too many “sounds like” clues for my liking...

I'm not quite there either. It didn't help that the first clue I solved was 24a - NORAH. It worked perfectly but it was wrong. I don't blame the setter for that but it is unfortunate when two perfectly good answers fit the bill.

5d suggests a noun to me but the answer I have is an adjective and is the word "enough" doing anything in 9d?

Likewise 26d suggests a noun for the answer when it is an adjective.

Does deign really mean incline in 42a? The clue doesn't really work either.

I didn't like anit-scrumpers as a definition for 43a. I suppose they are but you just as well might call retailers anti-shoplifters or define teachers as anti-truants.

It's an odd-looking word meaning 'emotional outbursts'. There's Husband, Wife, and a three-letter word (reversed, backed) for Cunning.
