I make a separate thread of this because Brendan and Rusty and myself have asked the question, but nobody has been able to answer, why "college" is included in 56a.

56a "Where is the the college porter?" barmaid said (4,6)
The answer's obviously beer cellar (said means sounds like)

Does the compiler look at this forum?

I think the setter included 'college' as a piece of misdirection - wanting solvers to be looking for the person, the college porter, rather than a place where drink would be stored. I don't think this really works unless the solver is someone who'd been at a college/university which has porters as standard - and that, I suspect, isn't the majority of people.
