56, I suppose a "barmaid" is a "beer seller/cellar".
Can't see the "college porter", though.
Could it be a kind of ale?

Rusty "37, Your parse is correct, Brendan, but include "d" for delta."

What about the first "e"? Surely it isn't the "close to bluE"

Hello, Tatters,
I don't have the puzzle, and you make a good point.
I am wondering if possibly there is a word missing from the clue.
Perhaps ^close to "the" blue delta^.
That would give the correct parse?

Rusty, Tatters, I'm 99% certain that there was a 'the'.

Ah!
Thank you for the info, Malone.
That would certainly help the parse!

56 Porter is beer but I too don't understand why college is included.
("Where is the the college porter?" barmaid said (4,6))
The answer's obviously beer cellar (said means sounds like)
Any ideas folks?

While I'm here, I also don't get 35:
35a Inopportune fret by half back (8)

I can see that mistimed fits, with demi back for the second half but why on earth does mist mean fret?

Thanks for any help in advance.
