Pretty easy this week, but just can't parse this:

34d Golf clubs holding English Open, finally - competitors don't want it (6,5)

Certainly looks like Wooden spoon. I can see E (English) and N (open finally) in WOODS (golf clubs), but what about the POON?

Thanks in advance.

If you go back far enough, a SPOON was a golf club (3-wood, as I remember)

Well I'm glad you think it's easy. (Smiling ruefully)
Been working on it since yesterday lunch and have managed 3 answers. Just not getting into the setters mind at all this week sadly.
Over to DanWord I think
