Isn't 20ac a normal clue? -
'Miss [ANITA] Brookner's L(ine) about...' = L+ATINA [eg 'Jennifer Lopez'] and doesn't the extra word 'buck' in 14ac give the same initial letter 'B' in any case?

Nice puzzle. I think you do need to do the redundant word stuff otherwise how would you know what the A group is all about? Just like detective stories, I like all ends neatly tied.

Teenieleek, I take your point about loose ends, but I was happy with my A answers, having settled on them being songs. It seemed a little odd that we had the themed connection, and then a connection between A and B … but C and D got nothing more!
