Thanks Chrise and Zozozo

That was my first thought, but I couldn't find the anagram. I've got it now. I also think I may have the Hendricks quote, but I'm not sure. Does it finish with ass?

Thanks to you all I finally stumbled into the light. Phew - worse than giving birth that was!
Now for the rest of it - at this rate I should finally surface around Wednesday.
Your help was much appreciated.

Thanks to all who corrected my ass. Fortunately I finally found the answer on google. I was nearly there - only the last two words wrong. Just the rest to get now, but goling out tonight so may have to finish later or tomorrow. Thanks too for the hint about 13d. Never heard of it. I've no idea what 6d is though.

Got back from my goling out and tried again, got a few more but still stuck on
27ac Don's trip with boy(5,2) I have S?I?? ?N
28ac Hides from this attempt to imprison queen(7) I have T?N?S?Y
24d Do not hit girl! (4) I have ?I??

I'm still not clear whether I have the right answer to 26,4 (4,1,5) I have E?R? O M?R?Y. Even as a 13d I can't parse it.

My own 13d as a child was three men went to mower meadow

Roof, I'm not doing this puzzle, so the thematic stuff is a mystery to me.

28 A. Your S looks wrong - it's a usual three-letter 'attempt' with a queen inside. 'Hides from this' is the definition, the answer's a noun.

24. Split the clue in two, a comma will show the double definition.
