17ac Mike herds eastern cattle from a long time ago.
Last one in, and I think it can only be one thing (def being the last 5 words); but I can’t fully parse it. The cattle bit is eluding me.

I'm hoping that the cattle is one of the obscure Japanese ones! Google didn't help, though I only looked at the first page.

Apart from that (and a quibble on 10a), this was the easiest Prize I've ever seen.

How does 3D work?

Animal found in a Lima road, squashed (9)

I have an answer but if it is an anagram of "a Lima road" it doesn't work.

You're right, david. I just wrote in the answer without checking the fodder. There's an A instead of a required L, as far as I can see.

On the Guardian site people have been commenting on this at the end of yesterday's Nutmeg thread. They seem to agree.

I agree with you about 3d. doesn't look right but may have missed something.
!7ac. There is a 2 letter ungulatel commonly used in scrabble. Put two of those in and you have an alternative spelling of the defined solution.

That parsing makes sense, tonipandy, but it would be another mistake. That spelling isn't in Chambers, and Google seems to think that it's a foreign word.

Thanks for the redirection Chrise. What a strange puzzle. I agree with all the points above, though 10a works
