26a Draw on book jacket of "Candide" for entertainment (3,5)

Certainly looks like tap dance, but that would imply that the book reference was to Dan. Surely they shouldn't be using abbreviations for books of the Bible if they are in fact referring to the book of Daniel? What next - Josh? Jerry? Or am I just an old reactionary?

In most copies of the bible that i've seen, within the books the name is abbreviated at the top of each page. I agree that there should have been some indication - "short book" perhaps?

I'm not justifying it Graham, but I have seen the Book of Daniel abbreviated to 'Dan'' in at least one Times crossword before.

Personally, I don't see it being any different to using any other abbreviation given in Chambers in wordplay.
