Behave as timid type when ones struck and hold on, hoping for the best (3,4,3,5). I have R?? ?C?? ??? ??O??. I'm not sure about the C. It comes from 17d where I've found a yellow mineral, but I can't parse it.

Hints for 14ac Carpet sweeper collecting great amount, first to last (9) and 14d Drug last character brought into inn, beer being laced. (10)
and 19ac Female engineer ace being brought in to go down a hole? (9) I have D?S?R????

14d The definition is the name of a drug. It's an anagram of 'Inn + Beer' around 'last character' (think alaphabet)

19a Female is a 2 letter name + a name for a military engineer around A(ce)

For the first one, I think the definition is 'Behave as timid type' and references a famous nursery rhyme about blind mice and yes, the C is wrong.

14a Definition is 'a type of carpet woven on a loom'. It's a 5 letter word for what one would commonly use to sweep the floors around a 4 letter word meaning 'Great amount' with the first letter (L) moved to the end.

Many thanks Brendan for your hints. They enabled me to finish, though I'd never heard of the mineral and it took me ages to think of the second word in 16ac, despite Brexit!

Brendan. @24
I think the nursery rhyme was Hickory Dickory Dock.
