I think there are two abbreviations in the final grid but Ifor is usually very precise, so perhaps it's my mistake.
Both could be abbreviations of place names.

Wiki offers a couple of very obscure proper names - and one of these is a musician's initials (the other is a magazine I hadn't heard of before now). Is anyone in the same position?

Not as far on as you drxx. I have a full grid , the location and year and have 5 of the 6 4 letter words from the 3 letter clues... can't find a 4 letter one for the other defn in 4d . Perhaps i have one of the 2 letters (that have to be added) wrong?

Can't see the 22 letter remark yet either?

bunty - 4dn is a literary reference (HG Wells 'The Time Machine').

The message starts with a very short archaism.

drxx, is the remark in the shape of the 'things' in the event - or is it more straightforward than that?
