This has been an abominably frustrating crossword. I am about to give up on the final three linked clues. Can someone put me out of my misery!
40 across: Pressing obsession to contain evil spoken of. (9) I have

22 down: Remain behind brook(5,3) I have ???N?, F??
26 across: Peter out of luck at first, if at races (4,3) I have
???I, O?F
These appear to be simple clues after the extremely difficult ones I've already managed to get, but I've lost the will to live now.
HELP!!!

40a. Thronging, sounds like wrong in thing.
22d. Stand (remain) for (behind; definition brook
26a. Tail off (Peter out) anagram of (of l(uck) if at) anagrind: races.
