I'd be glad of help in understanding these:

Herbivores love to feed on greens
ROEBUCKS

Stress-free, as one with answer to 28
UNTONED
("28" may be a cross-reference to "middle age spread")

Love = o

On = re

Greens = bucks (us dollars)

Stress free (in music) = untoned
(Not sharp) I think

If you have a middle age spread. You're untoned

I agree David. Not as pleasurable as it once was.

I buy the odd edition in the hope that I would enjoy it again.

But that isn't the case for me of late.

Times and Setters change. We have to adapt and learn their new styles.

And thank you again shooty, for that generous spirited response. But oh for the days when Araucaria and Custos alternated in the Graun Prize spot on Saturdays! Clues were written then from the point of view of the solver, who needed help in working out the answer. They were not written from the point of view of the setter, who knew the answer, and wanted to show off how clever they were at concealing it.
