Is it chamber? Don’t understand.

89 down (7): Fried cubes you’d croon over - doh!

Looks like it must be CROUTON. Don’t understand why.

89 Google tells me ut is an earlier term for do/doh (as in doh ray me ...) The croon surrounds ut.

It's Clabber, mud - a good Scottish word, I think someone parsed it earlier - take the 'a' from Caber, bit of wood tossed, and put in Lab, dog. C lab ber,
