Thank you Stevie Gee. Thought it might be that, but honestly not sure why. :(

Jings, one meaning of 'flock' is company, another is 'waste wool, cloth refuse' - so it's just a double definition.

Thanks Mildred for your suggestions. My research revealed Primrose Day is in April so perhaps kisser is the link to the February event. I was expecting Valentine to be the solution to one clue but alas no.

This one is a bit less obvious; think about what is unique about February.

What I can't see is what the 'another twelve' reference; is it another set of solutions or another sequence?

The other 12 I think just refers to the 12 months of the year which don't actually feature in the solutions. Off to have another trawl through the grid to look for something unique about February?

Actually just noticed a collection of weather related solutions. Haven't counted them but could these be the other 12? Still flummoxed re February!

Re the 12 solutions, I think they are from Sara Coleridge's poem "January brings the snow
makes our feet and fingers glow"

Well done Dotsecond, problem solved. That looks right and the events taking place each month must be the secondary twelve in the preamble. I don't know that poem, it's a pretty one, thank you!
