Can you help - “characters in flannelette, cotton or natty jacket” - just completely stumped

Doublet, jacket. All those words have a Double T in them!

And a double "n" in "flannelette"....
it is a double definition
One meaning of doublet is a pair or couple.

Actually, the more I consider this , the more I think the parsing is two- edged?
It could just mean a double "t" or it could mean sets of pairs of letters?
Both seem to fit the bill.
