Tite is an old word for 'at once' 'immediate' if we can make that work as 'straight' then it sounds like 'Tight' - slewed/drunk ?

Chambers gives one meaning of the adverb 'straight' as 'immediately'.

Incidentally,this sense is shown by OED as 'now poet or arch', a quoted example being from The Rime of the Ancient Mariner: "The boat came close beneath the ship, And straight a sound was heard."
