Meursault - as the preamble states, Ring 5 is given in its original form. If you have the 7-letter answers correctly entered, you should spot the connection.

Thanks smartie, that island is not in Bradford’s, and I’ve never been there or even heard of it. Anyway, all finished. Now comes the really hard part, filling all the letters into the circles. I can’t make up my mind as to whether I enjoyed this one or not. Some very obscure entities, plenty of Googling, possibly a few doubts. But it’s done. Now for the fun part: housework.

Meursault, once you get the translation you’ll get the theme. Just Google the letters you have and it will come up with the corrected sentence.

I'm still baffled by 9: "Don't bring charges against a festivity."

Someone said it's in Bradford and so PARDON works but I know that cannot be right. Someone else said it begins with L and all I can see is LAMMAS but how does the wordplay fit? Someone else said it comprises two three-letter words but Bradford doesn't seem to help there!

If you don’t bring charges against somebody you *** them ***. Hyphenate these two three-letter words and you get an unusual word for a festivity which you can confirm in Chambers.

I managed to stagger over the finishing line last night as well as doing the EV and watching the football highlights - a profitable evening! Thanks to all for the help without which I’d have given up long ago.

Let-off, rad? I cannot see that as a festival. Besides, I've been assured it's in Bradford and that isn't.

I do see it now! The trouble was, it's in the printed version of Chambers but not the electronic one and it's in the general list in Bradford and not that one that lists them all by lengths of words.

Finally, after at least 8 hours on this, I have just one remaining unknown. Is the second shepherd 'Delio' ?
