As in other entries, the last letter could be elsewhere (in two other squares in fact), but has to go in the empty square. Did you just happen to make it a six-letter entry rather than five?

The letter count is given and yet I made a mistake.

Late start today - just finished & came here to find a longer thread than usual.
That was a brilliant puzzle. No problem with the "items", though a couple almost led me asstray.

After reading the above posts I looked at my solution & found a different error. I had used square 39 twice.

The central shaded squares should READ as follows:
SW - last letter of 32
NW - last letter of 45
NE - last letter of 14
SE - last letter of 33

That's what I ended up with too.
