indicate = CROSS -(as a tick on a form etc,)
way = ROAD
before the roundabout ? - def. - crossroads were more plentiful before the advent of modern traffic roundabouts

surface referring to highway code etc.

Good evening everyone,

This contest has almost come to an end - Just a few minutes for
an eventual late entry, while I am getting ready to announce
the winner.

OK! I make it 22 clues by 12 setters, not counting Paul who withdrew one of his clues as well as Seamus.

There were many clues I liked and I also learnt a thing or two from
the parsing- thank you for this.

My short(ish) list included Chrise @ 2 (I was waiting for a reference
to that soap), Mattrom @4 and 16, Seamus @ 25 (amongst others!)
Paul @ 11, Les 40 @ 23, and Ixion @ 27 and BBM @ 31

But for me, the winner tonight is Mr Aristo @ 15 with a smooth
