Hello again, I've agreed with most of the comments to date. And, Hello Dryden, the same applies with your comment except when you went counter-intuitive with your remark that the editors are mostly meticulous. Of course, on an internet forum, who can know who is who, and what agenda they have, but I'll clearly state (again) that the Listener editorial board is poor.

Confused myself a lot simply by being messy and writing down the wrong missing letters. Virtually there but just cant see 6d. I cant understand why the 3rd letter would be either of the i or n that make words !

rrrobbo - 6D is one of the smaller answers - just 2 letters and 2 letter missing addition.

I have completed the grid but can't parse two answers. (If I have them right!). 38a seems to link to 'craft' as the definition but I can't see the rest. I have removed the 'a' from 'anew', which perhaps gives the 'n' of the entry. 7d seems to be a perfectly normal clue. I can get the answer without removing a letter or adding a f**h. Hopefully you can help and then I can get back to the rest of my life.

Catkin - more than one solution is lyes (a caustic solution) with n for new added aboard=ss. In 7d remove the r to give shot mutineer indicating an amagram. Hope this helps!

Thank you, Smartie. I was so close! I had come to the conclusion that "short" was related to crumbly (as in pastry) and that it therefore indicated the anagram. Too fixed on that to see outside the box!

Just 25 and 34 left to go for me, but I can't seem to get anything to fit the gaps, which makes me worry that a crosser somewhere is wrong - 33 would be an obvious candidate but I'm fairly confident in that one as it happens!

Mathmo, 33 is BROACHED.
25 : an L is dropped from cults, so C(atholic) cuts, or is included in, a word for a row. The definition is a variety of grape used for Madeira.
34 : R is dropped from Marc's, so you have a Scottish word for nappy, or fluffy. The wordplay involves removing letters which represent 'child' from a word for fastidious.

That does the trick! There weren't any mistakes misleading me - just a mental block over 34 and an inadequate dictionary for 25 (I really should get a Chambers...)
