Can someone parse the two leading clues, please - 7 & 9 - as I'm being slow today (again)?

9 STILTED (stiff and pompous) around Hair's first; say - EG - return

def "a thick head of growth"?

No idea of the other - I'm not seeing how "wont" as a word fits in.

I assumed it's:
A block: def
cheese: Stilt(on) [you won't find on]
stall: hedge

Thank you, fiery!

Quite an honor for the walker of Skye; there were some lovely clues. The worthy winner is:

Stiff and pompous about hair's first return, say - a thick head of growth (5,5)

I assume you’ve all seen Hidcote with its prominent stilt hedges. None of those here, but you may not have seen these gardens. I usually detest plants that “weep”, but Spanish moss gets me every time. Note the degradation of sculpture over the years; it’s like the new stones in an ancient graveyard.

Happy Easter to all! Now off to play at Tenebrae…

Congrats Skyewalker and thanks Aristo for hosting. (Stilt hedge was new to me. I had to google it!)
Thanks ChrisE for the vote and SW for the mention.

As Aristo said, it is indeed an honour (and surprise) for me to have won with such great clues in contention. Thanks for hosting, and for the clip, Aristo. Looks like an amazing place to visit. Normally find statuary a bit creepy, but some of that looked amazing, especially the ?bronzes.

Thanks very much Mattrom, PeterM, Chiaroscuro, Paul and Fiery for your votes. The winning clue wasn't even my favourite amongst my own attempts (but it was Fiery's). It's difficult to be objective.

Happy Easter, everyone. Have a good one! See you all next week.
