Yes I did see your last post, thank you, but I am not convinced that "one" meaning a drink or a joke is a common device. In 30+ years of crossword solving I've met it only on the two occasions you have explained it to me!

My wandering mind also dredges up:
"How much is that doggy in the window?
"The one with the waggly tail."
