I am just getting back to this.
I have very few answers so far, so I need to devote some time today.

How many places go in the perimeter?
I know Lyonesse is mentioned as going into the top left. But have not figured out where Lyon is coming from.

I am trying to get 10d and 15a. Any hint there?
SE corner is totally blank.
My 21D starts with ?YM..... Is that correct?

Lyon was the herald (lion?) from 12d

7 places ...clockwise and anticlockwise from top left to bottom right ... with 5 letters overlapping ( end of one = beg of the next)

10d MO = way of working ....can't see the rest but mosaic seems to be the answer

15a it is split 2,5 mammal is superfluous ...def is second or mole perhaps (mole is not the animal here ... think chemistry)

16d now sorted ... i was putting the R in the wrong place!

I had mosaic in mind but could not see saic as vessel.

19a turns out to be a city but don't see connection to ruby.
Ruby Red? and City Red?

Is mural the def in 30a?

Making slow progress. 4d and 21D eluding me at the moment.
What is the second letter (after S) for 4d?
SE corner is giving me trouble.

25a gives one of the theme words. I think it is 9 letter long. 4 letter word for Shoddy + two for Belize but where do the other three come from?

But I have the periphery words done.

Have most of SE corner now. Still a few left.
