I have all the unclued answers and the clued solutions except 25/26 "Digital extremity with nothing missing in part of fortification" but there I am mentally clueless. My best shot would have a tennis connection. A hint or two would be appreciated.

universal crossword solver is good for these crackabilly .... and you should find that they are in alphabetical order a through to h, although the 8th is actually swiss i believe not german??

The German eighth doesn't refer to the unclued entries themselves, but to their initial letters.

Many thanks Kirky - I made a dyslectic entry for 15d - mixing my T and V. I enjoyed the puzzle this week.

Can Malone or anyone else clarify the 'German eighth' reference? I have one missing ?IN?I but still can see that it can't refer to first letters when one starts with A and one B...the others I have start T G E H D.

From my list of composers - FINZI - fits. But my list does not include 16a - A?ES.
I am also stuck on 18D.

Finzi is good thanks. Ames is an American composer. And by using Corelli not Torelli all the theme words now start ABCDEFGH.
18d is a phrase a bit like comings and goings if that helps.

Thomas Ades is a British composer
