Could someone explain the wordplay to 16d please. I presume the answer is "tassets" and the spare letter is "t"; "immediately" in the clue could be "stat" but if so I can't make any sense at all of the middle bit.

And am I right in thinking that the "word" to be written beneath the grid consists of ten letters and isn't actually a word at all?

2d Extent of terra ignota (4) RA?E ...possibly RARE with T as the extra?
or RATE with R as extra

I am missing letters between erase and ....as outcome. The ones I have don't make sense so i must have some of them wrong if someone could help please.

I now have "reorder" in there somewhere but it still doesn't make sense?

Stat = immediately, then reversed with a T removed. Put on = set, then rear to dress = S.

Extent = rate.

Thank you, orson. I'm sure that your parsing is correct, but "put on" for "set" is to me tenuous at best and the clue I have (online version) ends "immediately to rear to dress" which is either a misprint or a shocking piece of clueing.

I've got ERASE AND REORDER ?S OUTCOME.

with N where the question mark is, above, but that doesn't make sense. I don't understand 6d.

6d Steep is def as in soak. TEAR (rent) upside-down with A as extra letter

For 6d I thought:
answer = RET defn steep
rent = tear ... reverse it then A is extra

From 7d i had another extra A from (A) mine = PIT
