Having grid-stared for some hours I have just had a PDM. You are looking for a rebus

Gitto - word play for 15d is 2 letters and 5 letters - as 1 letter is omitted

Despite all the hints from contributors - thank you all - about how to apply the instruction I have followed several hours of pleasure in completimg the grid with several hours of torture staring blankly at the grid. Can anyone provide further help before another gin bottle is emptied

All finished, done the shading. Pretty obscure I thought but got the main word, then just worked round it. Held up for quite a while with 30d where I had bonnie, with T as the wrong letter: made sense to me. Still cannot get the wordplay to 3d, not that it makes any difference.

notrab, you're very nearly there with your gin bottle. Look in centre row.

Thanks crates. So simple when one reads the clue correctly.

So it says "done" in the middle row but that's hardly 19 cells. Re posting 4, is it the clues or the answers to the clues that "play a part"? I've considered the letters that are omitted in the wordplay for the special 7 and I just gets mostly Es and Gs.

You just need a bigger bottle!
