If I follow the steps as I think I'm supposed to, I lose the five thematic words that were to be highlighted, having just six letters left in the CC.

Hi Orson. Yes I found it unsatisfactory and after last weeks puzzle I started looking for a less obvious solution, but I don't think there is one.

Like Jogamel, my silver is causing me problems. Is it the red herring?

Marca, although I didn't like changing Silver, there's no real reason not to - the other thematic entries get mucked about too! The preamble says 'all grid entries consist of real words' - but SilvNr isn't a grid entry, it's formed from other entries.

Thanks Malone. This has been niggling at me for a day or two and I probably didn't really notice that grid entries were still real words.
