Thanks, syzzie, but yikes! I don't get the directions at all.

Start at 1, as usual, & go East.
Continue with 2 & turn South, then West, with 3 & 4.
Turn North, then East again.

It's like weaving.

Thanks again. I get it. However, I used to watch my grandmother at her loom and she never did it quite that way. :)

Thanks, Syzygy, that was fun. Liked #5. The definition is probably an old chestnut, but it made me smile.

Very nice, but shouldn't 7 be ERTE rather than ETRE? It seems as if the clue requires the latter to be reversed.

The clues weren't as zingy this time but yes, #5 was my favourite.
Also liked 7, 19, & 25.

Not sure if 6 & 7 read the correct way. They seem to be backwards.

7. remember it is written to the left.

Perhaps the zigzag confused the setter.

I agree about the tapestry, aristo. I had visions of weaving as in over and under and thought "No, not possible". However, I have done about half and 5 is definitely the best so far. Thanks for the answer to 7!
