Many thanks dj.... & Malone, gives me a hint of where to go....needless to add, I haven't done any of the letter clues but I have got an idea of the game (even tho' I only know it in its commercial form) not that it gives me any idea of what the appropriate word is, numbers don't seem to equate to a word in this situation..... not to me anyway!

Sorry, Manic Mary, I don't know what 'numbers don't seem to equate to a word' means! You get the appropriate word by playing the game on the grid as it is - it was good fun.

Full grid, codeword sussed, but 8 cell line....?

Hello Malone, it's a numbers game (or colours) and I can't quite see how one sets up a game, in the number version to equate to letters, but then I am very slow and it takes me a very long time to do these EV crosswords. Will plod on!

ManicMary, it's not the numbers version - there's a words one too! There's a good outline of it on Wiki.

Micky, the keyword is four letters - and you replace four other cells (all in a line). If you've played the game, you'll know what these replacements have to be. As all entries in the final grid are real words, have a look at likely options.
