8d. POORTS. Po (sullen, as in po-faced) ORTS - bits (of food etc). POORT is a South African mountain pass, as found in the area of the port of South London. Phew!

I disagree with Mamya about CRANEFLY, although the reasoning ia brilliant. I've gone for SNAKEFLY; S = is, NAKEFLY= nake(d)ly +F.

I'm stuck on 45ac. I say you left after five to eleven VOWEL?.
26ac. Half of moth's inverted part of wing ULNA?
49ac. Edmund's country wife missing from Hebridean town lane ?ND

I've got the name and the associated name, but can't figure out how to get the 2 locations (I think I know what these are) from the altered cells.
