Hi clueless
I think that my sail/mineral vein works, but I've attempted the Wee Stinker occasionally and remember that things aren't always as they appear!

I think roll = reef = vein works, Chris.
Anne Bradford gives "reef" as a synonym for "roll"
and the definition of "reef" is a vein of ore in the earth.

I'd be quite interested to hear if REEF was correct. Are the answers given next Monday?

Thanks for posting the link, Seamus.

I agree with REEF for5a.
'roll to reduce' (the amount of sail) = reef
