Yesterday we had an incident on the Forum when a user posted a very unpleasant post, both in terms of language and content. This generated several complaints so I dealt with the offending post accordingly, removing the worst of the bad language.

The resulted in a further post from the user which was as unpleasant as the first one so I banned him. He has asked to be reinstated which I am willing to consider if he promises not to use such unpleasant, derogatory language in the future.

Could I remind everyone that bad language, swearing and derogatory comments are not permitted on our Forum. Please respect other users whether or not you agree with their point of view. You may state your point but in language that does offend others.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Thanks, Norah. I agree with everything you say - I'd like the site to stay in its polite, civilised, articulate form!

Thank you Norah. Anyone so inclined can be rude behind a pseudonym.

I was involved in the exchanges on the thread in question - I am ever mindful of the fact that words on the screen can be read by anyone of any age or sensibility.

You can be passionate on a topic without resorting to bad language.

I don't like to think of someone being banned however and if a reassurance is forthcoming of no such repeat another chance seems fair.

I think an apology is called for from "Palman" - firstly for his use of
"bad language, swearing and derogatory comments" and secondly for his additional rudeness and disrespect to Norah in his response to her admonition.
This was totally out of order.
Norah does an excellent job for us all, in keeping the Forum a pleasant place to visit, and this should be respected by everyone .

Thank you for your kind comments and for sticking up for the integrity of the Forum, this is very important to Ash and myself and it is nice that you all feel so strongly about it.

I have been in communication with Palman today and we have settled the matter in an amicable manner ending with a chat about my spiritual home, the beautiful Derbyshire Dales. He has apologised and I, in turn, have reinstated him.

I hope we can now get back to normal. Thanks once again for your support.

Excellent outcome, Norah.

Are you free to become the next Secretary-General of the UN by any chance?
