Perhaps you are thinking bodice, though chemisette is the right word. I saw one in a catalogue recently and it was called a modesty panel!

Thank you, rusty.
I used to wear a bodice for the long trip to school (bus, ferry, tram each way). It was fleecy inside but I still got very cold. Snow over the tops of my wellies, smog so sometimes I couldn't read the number on the bus. I don't fret for the good old days!
