With only mattrom and cymro to vote (I'm not sure cymro will realise a vote is expected but there's time yet) mattrom @ 26 on 3 leads ixion @28 on 2 with 6 others all having received 1 vote.
I'll look in again shortly after 10.

It's gone 10 o'clock and as I imagined, no vote from cymro.

Undoubtedly a tricky challenge as ixion noted. As usual, you all met it head-on with 2 of the 3 clues that I felt stood out being to the fore with the winner being mattrom's compound:

Many in the past point out the old wives' tale

Here are some popular misconceptions which hopefully amuse some of you although his comment about dogs being much better than cats is questionable IMHO !

Until next week, cheers.

Congrats mattrom - nice to vote for the winner (and thanks for the vote, seamus).

My favourite misconception (mentioned in that great clip, ginge) is the Columbus one; sages didn't say "You'll sail off the edge of the world"; instead they said "India is far too far away for you to reach sailing west!".

What a pleasant surprise - thanks to Ixion, Dorrien, Aristo and Chrise for your votes, and to BBM2 for the mention.
Thanks for hosting, Ginge, I enjoyed the clip. I found it a tricky word also. Tried something with a "ducks quacks don't echo" idea but it eluded me.
Thinking cap on for next week,
Cheers.
