Hi again aristo, just to clarify as you've split the in + D which may be a typo; IND (given in Chambers) = in nomine Dei.

In reply to your earlier query - mattrom has it pretty much spot on.

snake = WIND
stop(JAM) for tea(CHAR- slang) - charMER > JAMMER
ocean traveller - def.

Thanks, ginge and bigbad. Yes, I knew it was IND; I'll blame it on my phone.

You folks are really something; there are so many nice touches in this batch of clues. There’s mattrom’s bark stopper, chrise’s air-guitarist, ab’s saxophonist, bigbad’s stop for tea, stevea’s DJ/mixing/sound, ixion’s wonderful mermaid and “Prove you’re the best one spinning”…I could really go on. I love ginge’s brilliant wordplay (“…wedges, in the name of God Jack…”), but I’m going with therogue’s charmingly apt

South African agreement after "West India" Master boards French sea vessel (10)

Here’s the prize- a bit of modern First World entertainment (no, not busby’s Mr. Methane!). Can you imagine our forebears sailing through thunderstorms for kicks?

Thanks to all of you. Such a pleasure.

Well done, therogue. Thanks for the fun and the mention aristo.

Can someone parse therogue's winner for me, please? 'Scuse my ignorance!

On the side subject of Mr Methane ... I reckon he got his inspiration from La Petomaine (known in English as the master farter). Google if you really, really need to know what he could do with a bucket of water and a tube ...
