1021 in bed have an illness. I have complaint as my answer but can't figure out the "plain" part of answer. 1000 is m and bed is cot. How do you get "plain"?

If you read 1021 as one thousand and twenty-one might plain relate to the answer to 21?

As asked above the 21 part of the clue is the bit you need - does it relate to a clue 21 in the puzzle?

Yes, we do understand

M - 1000
Cot - Bed

In the crossword what are the clues/answers to 21a or 21d?

They could lead you to the rest.

It could be where the plain comes from.

21 is one score and 1! It's possible that a "score" could also be a plan (for a musical piece) with "I" inside. It's very obscure though.

Well found Seamus - I agree it is obscure.

Starting to wonder if there is a theme to this grid of some kind.
