Help please .... all done except the names of three participants. Got the author and the phrase, but completely lost with 12a, 19d and 28d.

The 3 participants are all to do with it
12a Do you ken John ........... at the break of the day do you ken ....
19d starts with J ... if you have the theme and with your crossers you should be able to guess/google him
28d also a world war 1 poet with same name
