Thank you, ari. I think it is ES at the end but because they are the ends of ABOVE OTHERS.

I take the whole word as the anagram of 'peers' and 'sever'. Peers = both 'a group of equals' and House of Lords types (above us/others, allegedly).

How about eer (heir) followed by ie (say) ?
