English is E, mild is CLEMENT, sans(without) head is cLEMENT together makes ELEMENT (He is helium which is an element)

Strange is EERIE - sounds like EARY. 'nuff said or I'll be thrown in the Tower!

I take the whole word as the anagram of 'peers' and 'sever'. Peers = both 'a group of equals' and House of Lords types (above us/others, allegedly).

PERSEVERES

PER = a (as in one per day = one a day)
SEVER = cut

S = (other)S ultimately
