With 3 votes still to be cast, paul @3 has a 2 point lead over mattrom @21 and ixion @17.

A late flurry of votes could also force a draw from 5 members of the chasing pack.

There is only Les still to vote but it won't affect the outcome.
Our worthy winner this week is Paul's wonderfully succinct #3

Capital punishment (4)

Thanks to everyone who took part for making this an enjoyable contest.

Well done Paul (always good to vote for the eventual winner!), thanks for the vote jws, and thanks for the competition bbm.

Shorter word: much reduced opportunity to anagrammatise, but then it creates a different challenge, so bring it on!

Thanks BBM2 and congrats paul - nearly my pick.

The short word was surprisngly fecund, BBM - it allowed me my quintuple (although the surface didn't make much sense).

Well done indeed Paul and thank you Marty
I like shorter words very much, especially one with so many definitions.
