Hi again chrise. I was always under the impression that brackets had to be paired for the intended effect to take place but I do recall instances on this site of the "effect" having been opened continuing through subsequent posts until the ending bracket posted. Myself recently with italics and Les (I think) with underlining.

Yes, ginge, I remember elle turining a whole page of the "Chatty thread" into italics when she was experimenting.

As I said, the arrows shouldn't have any effect anyway, as this site uses square brackets instead. (See RHS of text box when typing an entry.)
