Ah. Of course. Just wasn't seeing nevertheless as a subtractive indicator- should have looked back at "less stolid". Thanks so much, AB.

@ aristo; apologies for the late response and your parsing is obviously spot on and much appreciated ab, I'm not surprised it was your good self to provide it.

I've been trying to post here for well over an hour. I'm doing this from my phone now and can't copy my message to it. Please be patient. I'm going out of my mind...

What a blast! You’re quite the bunch of sharp cookies; so many of these are utterly brilliant. I usually don’t favor anagrams, but several are superb. There’s mattrom @5, ixion’s ear-fixing Auricularia (it took me a while to see that there are two anagram indicators), peterm @24… Lovely definitions from chrise and ab and les40… Very nice touches from paul (Nature’s Gift), rosalind (a naughty reference to Phallus impudicus [I hope I’m never that desperate]}, and greedy kite (brainy nut!), and dazzling ones from ginge (drugstore [wonderful] and Dioscurides and Galen)… I loved reading all of the entries. I’m going with bigbad @28:

Strange direction of US alternative healthcare policy? (8,2,10)

Lest you thought the doctrine outmoded, here’s an explanation of US alternative healthcare, brought to you by (appropriately enough) a nutcase:

I really thought this answer would be a daunting one to clue, but…wow. Thanks, everyone.

I totally agree with aristo - so many really clever clues. Congrats, BBM2 - stunning! - but lots of others could have been worthy winners too.

Thanks aristo. Glad that you survived the blizzrd without too many problems.

Well merited, BigBad; thanx 2 Mr A for persevering, the clip & the mention; one of the best collections I've seen for a long time!

When I saw BigBad's entry I thought, yes, that's totally brilliant! Well done.
Thanks aristo, had to look up the phrase so educational too. I did once have to answer an exam question " Write about any fungus with which you are familiar" (I kid you not). I so wanted to say "Excuse me, I do have some taste". No, i didn't write about that one.

Well done, BBM2, excellent clue. Thanks to Aristo for the mention and for persevering in the face of difficulties. An interesting topic and my anagram solver has certainly been getting a workout!
