Hi joe 90
I think the bird in 25d is RHEA: fancie(r) last = R + to go short = HEA(D).

hi GK

Go (short) and head (short) seem to be OK.
e.g.
go to shops; head to the shops ?

Thanx, jazzy. I would have said "head FOR the shops", but I'm no doubt being pedantic or just out of touch

Hi greedy kite

'To' and 'for' are often interchangeable.
For example, dictionaries give 'in the direction of' for both of them.

How about "to head back home" or "to head north"?
