Thanks, got it now. Had read it as a 7 for some reason, was trying to squeeze two of the omissions in somehow.

I have 12 across now. Thanks, Ginge!

But i now have one letter left: 29 down; I have OON_E. It looks like POODLE but I am certain that AUNE is right for 36A Old Measure of length, a French one (4).

I have looked at dogs in Bradford's but nothing seems to fit.

I am not sending this in for a prize; I am just annoyed that I have one single cell left!

You have an error in one in one of the across letters, which is one of the easier type to check. It is indeed a thematic entry, but has a thematic alteration.

The across ones I have are OOBIT, ASONITE, AUNE and OMEANIAN.

Asonite is an anagram of EATSIRON, less an R. Surely it can't be ARSENITE, which is also an acid?

Hi offramp, there is another anagram that fits the definition.
Also note 29d is given as (7).

Ginge and Sudokulover, thanks for the pointer.

It was just that one flaming letter. It was, as I know you'll both understand, driving me mad!

Many thanks to you both and an slightly late happy New Year to you!

Once again, thanks to the people who assist on this site. I often get legs-up from other people's posts which I don't acknowledge, and I am not sure where to post the gratitudinousness.
