The N comes from
Soldier at sea when trapped by skilful one at home there.

I have that as marine, with the M and R checked, but I'm open to alternative offers.

How about MERMAN? The RM could be the marine or "soldier at sea". I would never use "mean" for "skilful", but I belive that some people do!
