I fear I may have other clues wrong, as I can't find anything that fits these remaining two clues - but here goes:

15 down - confirmed bore (9) s---a-n-d

18 across - inside information that can be relied on, of course (8,3)

airtight tip?

I can see how 'straight tip' would fit the clue.

That would now make 18 across - confirmed bore (9) s-s-a-n-d
The only word (i think) that fits is 'sustained' but I don't see the connection?

Sustain: withstand, bear.......

Think of bore as the past tense of the verb "to bear"

I was considering 'sustained ' as it means the same as 'confirmed' but cannot see how 'bore ' fits in?

That would make sense, Brackendale , but shouldn't there be a comma then between confirmed and bore?
