A very warm welcome back, Jolan. The maestro returns.
Tantalising and clever as always.

Welcome back, Jolan! I saw only 2, 3, and 5 when I checked in this morning, and didn't get home by closing time. It seems you didn't either.

I've tried to post this several times. Same old story, but I have a lot of company now.

Hi all

Thank you for participating. I made a mistake with LAMASERY (Word did not underline it in red. Because it was in capitals? I certainly did underline it in lower-case.

When I tries to post my apology and parsing last evening, I could not post to the site. Every time tried I got "you cannot post to this site" or words to this effect. I emailed Ash/Norah and they've done a tweak (it's to do with the recent invading rats). Hopefully this will post.

See you next week.

1. short US apartment = condo (from Chambers condo = condominium; kind of – not all US apartments are condos); people = nation; CONDONATION = forgiveness (Chambers def).

2. foreign nursemaid e.g., = ayah; toll = ring; a = a; ay(a + toll)ah = AYATOLLAH = (loosely) an ideological policy maker (Chambers def, including “loosely”).

3. anag (for repair) of “renovated dhow in” = OVER AND DONE WITH = completely finished. {a bit of misleading choice here, eh?}

4. strike = lam; as = in the manner of (Chambers def); first aerial = a; y = railway; lam + as + a + ry = LAMASARY = monastery. This should be LAMASERY, therefore this clue is void. Sorry!

5. keep = fort; border = hem; anag (active) of “post” = ostp; craft = art; yielding:- fort + hem + ostp + art = FOR THE MOST PART = in the main (Chambers def).

Thank you Tevor
The problem has been solved (very rapidly indeed) by Ash and I now have no problems in posting to the site.
