8A - & 1 in 60 (4) N?N? Can only see NONE as there is a zero in the number 60 - any thoughts?

what is the clue/answer for clue 1?

1A - clue is - Heartless, being out (answer COMA)
1D - clue is - Study cast put to shame (answer CONFOUND).

Thinking COLD for 1a

2d is manifold so coma looks right

COLD would be good but 2D clue is 'OAP with various forms?' - answer being MANIFOLD therefore 1A is C?M?
I have COMA which is heartless COMMA (there is a comma after heartless in 1A clue.

8a could be nine from ix in 60 but can't parse the rest of it.
