Was still pondering your answers at 1.30 am how sad is that, and I still don't understand how you achieved the answer of Zoom-quickly. Where did "quickly" come from? I am pretty new at crosswords but this compiler was quite devious for sure. Many thanks to everyone who helped, I am going to lie down in a darkened room!

The clue was Sort of 3 career. The answer to clue 3 was Lens. A sort of lens is a zoom (lens). To zoom is to go quickly. To career also means to go quickly.
So "sort of 3 career" is zoom.

I sometimes enter the clue writin competitions and don't always understand the parsing when I know the answer (now, there's a confession)! People on here are great at helping and you'll find it easier with time.

Actually I was doing some gardening when the mist cleared and it all fell into place, what a dork(me) Only took me 3/4 days, keeps me quite. Thanks for spelling it out in words of one syllable.
